“PURPOSE MADE-TO-MEASURE”

Session 3

Introduction:

Analogies of:

i)                    Jigsaw puzzle, and

ii)                  Architect’s drawings.

3 major issues to consider:

1)         What is the general purpose to life?

2)         How will knowing this purpose affect my everyday life?

3)         What are the tailor-made purposes (T.M.P’s) for my life?

1. What is the general purpose to life?

M.O.T. Check Point  9 – The purpose to life, common to all humans, of both genders, in every generation, is to glorify God.

2 Thess 1: 11-12

Ps 86: 11-12

Three Pauline models:

a)                 Ambassador (2 Cor 5:20)

b)                 Letter (2 Cor 3:3)

c)                  Imitator ( Eph 5:1)

2. The benefits of purpose-driven living:

1)         Knowing your general purpose gives your life meaning, significance and identity.

2)         Knowing your purpose simplifies your life.

3)         Knowing your purpose adds focus and motivation to your life.

4)         Knowing your purpose in life prepares you for eternity.

M.O.T. Check Point 10 - Do we recognise the benefits of knowing what our purpose in life is?

3. Tailor-made purposes (T.M.P’s)

1)         T.M.P’s dovetail around our personality, our gifts and our passions.

2)         T.M.P’s are just for us, not for anybody else.

3)         T.M.P’s that are not informed by God’s general purpose for us are not from God.

M.O.T. Check Point 11 – What is God’s T.M.P for you (at the moment)?

And finally, finally – Don’t be fazed if your life is sometimes like the back of the Bayeaux tapestry.

SIX POINTS FOR REFLECTION:

·        In what ways can you glorify God in your life?

·        Consider Paul’s three models: Ambassador (2 Cor 5:20)

·        Letter (2 Cor 3:1-3)

·        Imitator (Eph 5:1)

·        Reflect of the benefits of knowing God’s purpose for your life

What T.M.P’s has the Lord revealed to you?
