THE
Session 13
Read Romans 12:1,2.
Recap.
The Scripture teaches that men
& women are tri-partite beings – spirit, soul & body (Gen.2:7; 1 Thess.5:23; Hebrews 4:12). * the
mind is such a powerful organ. * it tends
to control our lives * God’s way for us
is to be spirit-controlled * Satan
attacks the mind with unceasing ferocity (John 13:2; Luke
How do we renew our minds?
·
self-sacrifice. Our longings and lusts must be under control
so that we can worship God through our service.
Without this the mind will always obey the dictates of the body.
·
break the mould. Don’t live the lifestyle of the prevailing culture. Don’t think the thoughts of the prevailing
culture.
·
meditate on
God’s Word. (Psalm 1:1-3; 119:9-16)
·
send wrong
thoughts packing! (2 Cor.10:3-5) “…take every thought captive…”
·
work on
understanding God & His love. (Eph.1:17;
·
discipline your
thinking. (Phil.4:8)
·
beware a passive
mind! A blank mind is inviting other forces to infiltrate.
·
test thoughts
against Scripture. Follow the example of the Bereans

M.o.T. check-points
39 What do you find most difficult
about “giving your body as a living sacrifice”?
40 Do you manage to deal with
wrong or unhelpful thoughts? How do you
do that?
41 Do you meditate on God’s Word
until He speaks to you?
Exercise
If
your thoughts about yourself or God’s love to/acceptance of you are
negative do this:
Write down this affirmation and
say it to yourself at least twice a day:
“God loves me,--------, very much
and cares about everything I do.”
“God loves you,-------, very much
and cares about everything you do.”
Put your name in the space. It’s important to write the second one, in
the second person, because this is how you hear it from others.
