National Mission Team

The National Mission Team (“NMT”) works alongside PBC's MIST and local Engage Teams, helps to enable PBC to become involved in mission within the UK. The structure of the team is designed to build on the work the church currently does in the area of national mission and to enable the church to become more involved in the future.

As part of the universal church we have received a commission from the Lord to make disciples of all nations. As witnesses for Jesus Christ we are called to work within our local area, nationally and internationally

The NMT aims to co-ordinate and develop the involvement of PBC in mission within the UK by:

 - Communicating the mission challenge to the whole church;

 - Connecting PBC with appropriate mission organisations, and

 - Collaborating in mission by encouraging individuals to become involved in short term or full time mission and actively supporting members of PBC engaged in such work.

Innervation Trust

Innervation Trust

A trust has now been formed - Innervation Trust to carry forward this vision of massively expanding this work with quality music bands.

This work, along with many other exciting ventures, is possible due to the talented work of Zarc Porter and Mark Pennells. Zarc is a record producer who has sold over 350,000 albums, as well as being a musical genius and keyboard wizard. Mark was co-founder of The World Wide Message Tribe, where he performed for 5 years and was artistic director for 6 years. Mark and Zarc together formed Kik-Start Ltd and Movation Productions Ltd, with a goal to develop new bands.

The Innervation dream is to have top quality bands and artists all over the world with songs, production, choreography, technical back-up, videos, and albums not only competing, but standing out in the world and affecting millions of lives!  This will be accomplished through the anointed efforts of several touring bands, and a network of many schools teams.

These bands can go anywhere, do anything, promoting the Innervation vision and also presenting the gospel in the process.  Each of the schools teams, on the other hand, will be completely dedicated to taking the gospel to the schools of their city on a regular basis.  They'll have access to the touring band's material, dance routines and show ideas, as well as being fully trained in taking lessons, doing assemblies, and running a full concert event.

Mark and Zarc are from PBC, along with some of the trustees and others involved in performing, websites and admin.

The Message Trust
www.message.org.uk

The Message Trust is a Manchester based youth charity founded in 1992, driven by Christian principles.

The Message works in all ten Greater Manchester boroughs although the emphasis of the work is biased to the areas of Manchester that historically have been affected by poverty. Some projects operate across the North West and of course Hope 08 will impact the whole nation.

Some examples of The Message initiatives you might have heard of are:

  03-Jul-08

Eden - long term youth projects in Manchester's most disadvantaged estates
Eden buses - mobile youth centres that tour the city
LifeCentre - a funky youth café environment
Genetik - A music dance and recording complex
Reflex - delivering accredited programmes to young offenders in custody

What does the Message do? The Message...

Runs 9 'Eden' youth projects where over 100 volunteers live and work in tough urban contexts

Delivers around 2000 hours of youth work every month through over 300 separate activities

Is in contact with an average of 5,000 young people every month all over the city

Provides a safe 'off the street' environment for 500 young people every week using 2 high-tech mobile youth centres

Visits 20 high schools every year with inspirational pop group 'Blush'

Helps break the cycle of youth crime through innovative work in the region's Young Offenders Institutions

Operates a top-spec arts and music training centre in South Manchester

These projects have helped to raise the self-esteem of tens of thousands of teenagers and, as a result, crime has reduced in a number of difficult neighbourhoods. Bit by bit The Message are working to reverse the negative effects of poor education, housing and health, the teenage drug and alcohol problem and endemic crime and antisocial behaviour.

Visit the website for up to date details of exciting Message events like the 'Breathe' youth events, testimonies, and lots more.

Care, Support and Dignity

www.barnabus-manchester.org.uk

The Barnabus  Trust was set up over 16 years ago in Manchester City Centre focused on serving the needs of the poor. Barnabus' ministry has grown over the years and is now expressed in a number of different ways.

Street Outreach - medical care
Using a converted van as a base, Barnabus staff incorporating a paramedic, a nurse and a podiatrist are able to offer basic care, onward referrals and advice to those sleeping rough many of whom have drug and alcohol related problems.

Street Outreach - the trailer
A large team of volunteers use the kitchen-trailer unit three nights of the week to hand out sandwiches and hot drinks, blankets, clothing and 'dignity packs' containing toiletries. The volunteers are always on hand to provide advice and a listening ear. Between 100 and 150 people attend each evening.

The Red Light District
It is estimated that there are in the region of 400 women in Manchester City Centre selling themselves in prostitution. Volunteers meet the women out on the streets and offer hot drinks, food and support.
On Monday nights the medical unit is based in the red light district where the women can get general medical advice particularly regarding sexually transmitted diseases.

The Prisons
Barnabus staff have been working with women in Styal prison providing support at the beginning of sentences when the women are often at their most vulnerable.
Staff are also committed to visiting men in Manchester and Risley prisons and supporting them upon their release.

The Beacon
The recently refurbished 'Beacon' at 45 Bloom Street is Barnabus' hub. Several times a week around 60-70 people are welcomed in for breakfast and are able to make use of the laundry facilities and showers. Volunteers and staff aim to engage visitors in conversation and activities with the aim of building relationships, offering support and sharing the gospel.

Bling!

Sort out your bling -

New Barnabus Shop and Café opening soon!

www.barnabus-manchester.org.uk

Within the next couple of months Barnabus are hoping to open a charity shop and customer café in Withington Village . This should help to make the charity more self sufficient in terms of financial income. The café in particular will also be used as a place for outreach and sharing the Gospel.

They are in need of good quality items of clothing, bric-a-brac, DVD ’s, baby’s items (prams, toys, clothing) etc.

So if you have any unwanted Dolce and Gabana/Armani (or anything else!) lurking around at home now is the moment to contact Helen at the Barnabus office who will be only too pleased to take it off your hands. Tel  0161 237 3223.

Again, see the Barnabus website for more details.
