DECLARATION BY ALL THE CHURCH LEADERS IN POYNTON

Signed at the Joint Service at 6:30pm on 13th May 2001

All churches in Poynton work closely together

We declare the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the Light of the world, and Light to the community of Poynton. Jesus is our peace, our joy and our hope.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is leading us into a deeper sense of pilgrimage together, and is calling us to engage together in shared mission to God’s world through Churches Together in Poynton.

We, the Church leaders in Poynton, rejoice in our growing partnership of trust as we share at a personal level in worship, friendship and collaboration. We commit ourselves to pray, under God’s guidance, for the spiritual, political and social well-being of the community and people of Poynton.

And we invite our congregations to support us in this declaration.

PENTECOST

"All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit"

From the Bible, book of Acts, chapter 2 (NIV)

When the day of Pentecost came,
they were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the
blowing of a violent wind came from
heaven and filled the whole house
where they were sitting.
They saw what seemed to be
tongues of fire that separated and
came to rest on each of them.
All of them were filled with the
Holy Spirit and began to speak in
other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Now there were staying in
Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from
every nation under heaven.
When they heard this sound, a
crowd came together in bewilderment,
because each one heard them speaking
in his own language.

We are looking at Spiritual Gifts for Today's Church

on 6 Sunday Mornings between 22nd April and 3rd June 2001.

(Pentecost Sunday is 3rd June)
