How to be Spiritual without being Religious ?
We
can all agree that spirituality is
relevant and part of the current zeitgeist. Many of us from a variety of
perspectives and experiences would add that religion is out. It is also the
perception of many that they are still searching for that missing ingredient of
life, which may be defined by the term spirituality.
You may be on a journey of discovery, in your attempt to find the expression of spirituality most appropriate to you. Where has your journey led you so far? You may have had contact with expressions of spirituality such as New Age, Buddhism, or Hinduism or are you studying other ways of bringing peace into your life. Are you attempting to unlock your true potential with mind, body and spirit? If so what about spirit? Do
you consult your horoscope regularly? Have you had contact with those dealing
psychic power? Why do you think that George Lucas, Director of Star Wars, was
constantly referring to ‘The Force’ in the Star Wars films?
In John Grisham’s very popular
novel ‘The Testament’, he writes about a character called Dr Rachel Lane,
whose spirituality leads her to devote her medical skills to the care of a tribe
of Indians in the Amazon and to
reject an inheritance of several millions. Is she crazy, deluded or
does she have a spirituality which is real?
At Poynton Baptist Church we invited you to a continue your spiritual journey by considering the nature of the spirituality of Jesus, and whether or not it is authentic. This was done in a light hearted manner through the medium of drama (including Darth Vader and his mother), video clips, live music and 3 short talks. It took place at Poynton Baptist Church on Sunday October 8th 2000 between 7.30pm for one hour 8.30pm. All are always welcome whatever your views and we look forward to seeing you at any Livelink. |
