Action Unit - joint with local Baptist Churches The
Action Unit has been running since 1975 and we
continue to work towards helping others through a practical ministry. A
lot has been accomplished through this small
group, consisting of members from the Baptist Churches in our area,
namely, Bramhall, Stockport, Hazel Grove, Chelwood, Grove Lane and of
course ourselves at PBC, in our acting for Christ through the involvement in
other’s needs. Many
of you will already be aware that this group was started some 30+ years
ago and is still going strong, using our practical skills to help other
folk both overseas and closer to home. Christmas
Hampers
- Once again at Christmas, we supplied a good number of food hampers.
These were much appreciated by the families who received them. Women’s Refuge
- Representatives of the ACTION Unit were invited to the Christmas party
held for the children residing at the Women’s Refuge in Hoe Down - The start of the year saw another of our annual Hoe Downs - these are always great family fun affairs, the silent auction being particularly enjoyed by the children challenging one another. The dancing sheds pounds, but the hotpot and cake pile them back on again. From
the money raised at the Hoe Down we were able to send out cheques, the first to Casa Plus which is the girl’s house in Angela
and Steve Rowley from Bramhall Baptist have visited Aughi and Evelyn again
this year and they send their love to everyone.
The Water Project is self financing now and the concept has spread
through many villages in the area. This
project was committed to prayer in the early stages in that it would
spread to other villages and God has honoured that prayer. ‘Tippy’
taps are also functioning well and working in conjunction with the
filters. Prayer Breakfast - We hold two Prayer breakfasts each year to pray for the needs of our churches etc., these are a lovely way to start the day. It
is really good working together with the other churches and we have a bond
which is indescribable. The water filter project has proved very successful with 2000 people, 1/5th of the population, now having access to clean drinking water. Premises are being sought to rent by the roadside whereby more filters can be stored and sold, therefore eliminating transport costs for many more people. As a group we are continuing to support Ayugi, the next step being to provide 'tippy taps' which are in containers hung outside toilets and kitchens, so that hands can be washed in clean water and not much is wasted. The clean water coming via the filtration system. It is a very exciting project and has been blessed by God in such a wonderful way. 30 girls have come through CasaPlus over recent years, some have married and now have their own families, others have found employment. These girls have come to the house through the orphanages and off the streets. The bakery is up and running and making great strides. Here again, you can see God's hand at work. |
