MIssionary Support Team
MIST exists for three major reasons:
-
bringing the needs of our missionaries to the attention of the church MIST is now refocused on overseas missions and missionary service and support, working alongside PBC's National Mission Team (NMT) and also PBC's Local Mission team (Engage). MIST has been very much looking at two new areas for involvement of the PBC membership; firstly the possibility of sending short-term teams from PBC to various locations, and secondly considering the possibility of developing some sort of partnership with an overseas church. *****
As a result of a visit from Stuart Christine where he preached one Sunday morning about his work in South America, PBC were specifically challenged to become involved with two small Baptist churches in Iquitos, Peru. MIST and the Elders followed up the challenge, and subsequently two members of the leadership visited Iquitos in November 2007 so that they could report back to the church on the situation and the possibilities for PBC to be involved in that particular ministry. A second visit is taking place in the Summer 2009 by our Youth Pastor, Alan Leese, supported by MIST, with a team of young people from Energy to go on a mission trip to Bosnia Hercegovina. This trip will go to Mostar in July to work in Klub Novi Most, a youth drop-in centre for young people from all ethnic backgrounds. The team hope to be able to build relationships with the local young people through games, crafts, BBQs, swimming etc and share something of the love of God with them, as they did on their first visit. ***** Garth
