PBC GOLF SOCIETY AGM January 2010

Secretary's Report

Another good season enjoyed by 69 members in our 15th season.

There were many highlights and in no particular order I mention a few-,

The two Inter Society matches versus Peak District CGS at Sickleholme and versus Eagles CGS at Ashton Under Lyne.

Society Championships at Romney and of course our Captain's Day at Didsbury. The Steve Oake Memorial Golf Day at Davenport was again an open competition with 80 golfers playing.

The season commenced in March with a 'Texas Scramble' at Styal, much enjoyed and voted into golf days for the next season.

The season ended with the usual Presentation Dinner at Hazel Grove and for this we thank 'Team Marsden' — Steve, Meg, John Churchman and Marg Norman.

I have always been very proud of the society from the tentative steps of the early years and that is why I am always delighted when someone steps forwards on the admin side. First it was Brian Dique a number of years ago and the rest is as they say ,`history'. Then this year it was Paul Withington, he rose to the fore to be a splendid Competition Secretary and was of course voted 'Club Man of the Year'.

The Most Improved Player of the Year award went to Rob Iveson and the improvement in one year was outstanding.

It gave me a lot of personal pleasure to see Brian Dique carry out his duties as Captain and was pro active in many areas not least charity.

With the size of the society it needs a number of people to be involved and by way of thanking them I list them here:

Chairman, Bill Norman and I know from the tasks he carries out in church, his profession and his family life that we are very fortunate that he is our Chairman. Paul Withington as previously mentioned and assistance from Pete Finch. Steve Marsden, Social Secretary, he too with his church, professional and family life we are thankful for his involvement Derek Crookes is more than a Treasurer as his office states; he is an outstanding Financial Director. The Captain (Brian) and Richard Johnson are so supportive of the Committee work that we 'tailored' the times of the meetings to include them.

Angus Buchanan, a willing member but working hours prevented his attendance at many meetings, however I think it more important that he keeps the aircraft in his charge in good order — you may be flying with them!. Not on the committee but most important for the society is Marg Norman and John Churchman, they both do a number of tasks and are so willing (labours of love). So members congratulate
