*****

As I write this report we are nearing the end of our 13th season. The society has 73 members and the attendance at the monthly golf days has been in the high 30s.

The main golf event of the season, held in May, was the “Steve Oake Memorial Day” held at our local course, Davenport . Numbers for this event have to be restricted to 80. As we remember Steve I have to report that one of our founder members, Graham Milsom Smith, passed away during the season. My thoughts also turn to two of our stalwart members, Harry Jones and Mike Costello, who died in previous years.

My thanks go to Brian Dique who led the organisation of the joint Eagles / PBC golf societies’ “Summer Break” at Slaley Hall and also to Derek Crookes for his Florida trips.

We are all looking forward to the annual inter – society games versus Trafford Eagles and Peak District.

In November Steve Marsden will be organising the end of season dinner and prize presentation at Hazel Grove golf club; thanks to Steve who is a member of the 8- strong contingent from Poynton Christian Fellowship.

Ray Batt is coming to the end of his tenure as society captain and will be replaced in this role by Rev. Andrew Allan , the minister of PCF.

We are pleased, as a Christian golf society, to note that the sport of golf, more than any other, has retained its integrity at all levels – from club through to superstar.

We enjoy our golf and are quite competitive but the fellowship is all important. In line with the church theme on evangelism, we “walk across the Fairway”.

Alan Entwistle
