Christmas Message from Rev. Neil Brighton:
Soon there will be no more shopping days till Christmas, no more time for planning and preparation, and no more opportunity for wrapping presents or writing cards because Christmas is almost here. In place of the activity of recent weeks there will be the excitement of spending time with family and friends, enjoying time together whilst eating and drinking more than we should.
As well as all the trappings of Christmas, both the things we like and the things we don’t, there is also the mystery at the heart of it. Beyond the turkey and tinsel, the carols and the candles, is the fact that in Jesus, God has come to us.
This Christmas at PBC we are thinking about how Jesus comes as the light of the world. The amazing idea of the one who was with God from before the start of time, the one who was God, taking on our humanity and becoming one of us so that we could become like him. He came to reveal God to us and invite us to share life with him.
Christmas is an opportunity to have fun and celebrate but also to encounter afresh the God who comes. May your Christmas include time to wonder at the mystery of God being born as a man, occasion to glimpse the magnitude of what Jesus birth means, and chances to bump into the God who is with us.
