Jesus:   The Contagious Evangelist

Intro:    Define terms Mission & Evangelism

Jesus welded these two together and brought outreach to unbelievers with a contagion that was awesome.

Insights into Jesus’ contagion:

1.                  Jesus Knew His Identity (Lk 3:22)

You are my son                            -           relationship

Whom I love                                 -           loved

With you I am well pleased         -           approval/assurance

2.                  Jesus Knew God’s Anointing (Matt 3:16; Lk 3:21-22;)

At His baptism Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit led/thrust Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the devil (Matt. 4:1).

If you are the Son of God…”   Tries to throw doubt on Jesus’ identity

Attempts to throw doubt on Jesus’ assurance

After the temptations Jesus returned in the power of the Holy Spirit (Lk 4:14)

3.                  Jesus Knew The Purpose Of The Anointing

The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to:

preach good news … proclaim freedom … bring recovery of sight …

release the oppressed … proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour (Lk 4:18ff).

The miracles, signs and wonders Jesus performed, contributed immensely to making his evangelism contagious.

That evening after sunset … The whole town gathered at the door … (Mark 1:32)

So many gathered that there was no room left … (Mark 2:2).

A large crowd gathered round him while he was by the lake …

(Mark 5:22, 24, 30, 31)

4.                  Jesus Knew People (Jn 2:24; Lk 11:13; Mk 10:21, Matt 9:36)

Jesus saw people as lost … (Lk 15)

The lost sheep
